Spring at Rock Bottom Ranch: Chicks, Garden & Growth - Texas Farm Events

There’s a special kind of joy that only spring can bring—the kind that smells like fresh basil, sounds like baby chicks peeping, and reminds us that growth isn’t just possible—it’s inevitable when you nurture it with care.

Here at Rock Bottom Ranch, spring has arrived in full force. And we’re leaning all the way in.

Meet the Chicks

This season, we welcomed a new flock of Icelandic chicks to the ranch—hatched right here on site from eggs gifted by some of our favorite local farmers. These hardy heritage birds are known for their vibrant personalities, foraging abilities, and striking feather patterns.

Watching them emerge, stretch, and explore their new home has been a reminder of why we do what we do. These little ones are more than cute—they’re part of a growing, sustainable future we’re building, one feathered foot at a time.

In the Garden: What’s Growing Now

We’ve got a serious bounty in the works, and it’s just the beginning:

  • Cucumbers are climbing confidently, twisting their way up trellises.

  • Basil is lush and fragrant—pesto season is nearly upon us.

  • Tomatoes are starting to blush, promising juicy summer salads.

  • Peppers are poking up with bright green leaves and serious potential.

  • Rosemary is thriving, hardy and beautifully scented.

  • Flowers galore, bringing color, pollinators, and a little extra beauty to every corner.

What’s Next: Planting Even More

We’re not stopping here. We’re prepping more beds, expanding planting zones, and getting ready to scale up—more veggies, more herbs, more space to grow and share. This next wave of planting will take us through summer and into fall with fresh food, florals, and plenty to bring to our farmstand and farmers markets.

And as always, we’re doing it with heart, grit, and gratitude—for this land, this community, and the chance to build something that gives back.
